For this we have the Food Network to thank, but really, who doesn’t love a good cooking show?
At Gatineau’s École culinaire pour tous, however, the idea is for cooking to be more than just a show, it’s a team effort that everyone can participate in. Owner and Chef Thierry Deletrez hails from France, the land that practically invented the cooking school, and he has brought the cooking class craze to the capital region in full force. Offering mini-courses, group courses, and special team cooking events in their loft-style kitchen on an industrial stretch of St-René Est in Gatineau, the school has the most diverse selection of courses and programmes anywhere around. They even do outcalls to teach the finer points of cooking and baking with school kids, and offer haute cuisine courses for aspiring chefs and servers. Their pedagogical side has become so successful that Deletrez no longer operates the catering side of the business, for which he had already earned quite a reputation.
Their three chef teachers, Thierry, Jacques and Daniel, can offer group courses (in English or French) to make your office party into a team-building triumph, or just give your chosen family something more gratifying to do for your birthday than sit at an expensive restaurant. They specialize in making fresh, sophisticated dishes like shrimp and gazpacho, or a tricky layered layer cake with butter cream, with you, not for you.
